Making of Remmi 7, 2008
Music: Ratas, Pajula Records Oy
France 2008
Building continued in France. Finally we got (at least most of) the vehicle ready. Here are few pictures how it finally looked like.
More pictures from France you can find here.
Final countdown - MAY
17.5.2008 3am
Some fine tuning and FIRST TEST WITH WORKING BODY+ENGINE! Still 26 hours time before we start our trip to France. 500 meters of testing already ;)
15.5.2008 10pm
Some taping, electronics are ready and our F1 Monaco GP tickets arrived \o/. We also got first "smoke" out from engine. 3 days time to complite the rest.
15.5.2008 3am
Fine tuning for the vehicle and for our "new" car. New steering "wheel" is getting its form.
11.5.2008
Seven days time to complete the vehicle. Literally some light can be seen in the end by our driver. Bodywork is almost done now.
8.5.2008
A fuel tank finds it's place in the chassis. Also some fine adjustment is required here and there.
Teijo finishing the upper shell.
Antti presenting Remmi 7's to do- list.
Our drivers Minna and Marjo-Riikka testing new outfits.
Window molds. A heated plastic places a mold with the help of vacuum.
Janne puts tapes to our Transit. With this van we will make our trip to France in May.
4.5.2008
Front wheel holders and pivots all set. Kalle carried out most of plans and structure.
Currently we are laminating the bodywork. A bottom half is almost ready. Teijo and Ilari laminating.
Random acts. A window mold is made of classfiber.
Mechanization - APRIL
22.4.2008
The negative mold of the bodywork is completed. The mold consist of seven sectors made mainly of glass fibre.
Hynynen and Taipale master the skills of teamwork.
Opening the negative mold proved to be a cautious task.
The experiment of making a carbon rim showed us many ways of how to not make a carbon rim. Yet we have one.
The chassis is made up steadily. It performs a firm structure. Many rigiding pieces are laminated to the chassis and many inserts and small components are installed. A steering implementation is concluded and the new type of brakes settles to the realization of the vehicle.
Our driver Minna finds it easy to adjust to appropriate mood.
7.4.2008
The Negative mold of carbon rims is ready. Laminating the negative mold of the bodywork progress well. First out of seven sectors is ready. Hynynen took very good care of polishing the mold of the bodywork.
6.4.2008
Month passes and for Nogaro Remmi 7 is very likely to be completed since no grave complications occured. Many in Team is highly motivated to build this new vehicle ready to compete in about 40 days.
The positive mold of the bodywork is finished. Laminating the negative mold of body has started and in few weeks we are able to laminate the bodywork. The mold for carbon rims is also finished. Many inserts and small parts have been milled.
The carmarket Magneetti held theme event Green week few weeks ago. Remmi-Team presented there current vehicles Remmi 6c and Remmi UC1.
A lost gripper - MARCH
5.3.2008
A lot has happened in Team during past days. The positive mold is getting it's final shape. The positive mold will be laminated with light weight class fiber to make it more rigid. We cleared a corner in our club room to be place for laminating the negative mold of the bodywork.
We have nice positive mold for the negative mold of carbon rims. Qualified by Kankkunen.
We also have driver approved chassis.
A carmarket Magneetti helds theme event "Vihreä viikko" next week in Vantaa. Remmi-Team presents current vehicles Remmi 6c and UC1.
Kalle tunes UC1 to get the best of it for the upcoming fair.
Light at the end of the tunnel - FEBRUARY
27.2.2008
The positive mold of the bodywork is in our team room. We start finishing the mold immediately and the negative mold of the bodywork is expected to be laminated in no time.
Another interesting ongoing project concerns making carbon rims. We are expected to have two to three hundred grams lighter rims made of carbon fibre with total wheel weight less than 1500 grams.
25.2.2008
Hynynen milled the positive mold of the bodywork in Sysmä last friday. We will start finishing the mold next wednesday.
There were lots of laminating during weekend. We succeeded repairing the chassis. We laminated the carrier of front wheels and some small rigid elements for bodyjoints. We also laminated an additional frame. In these new parts we used mainly nomex-honeycomp and carbon. For steering we made new set of springs wich require much less strenght to bend.
20.2.2008
Antti took some serious time optimizing the bodywork of Remmi 7. He ended up minimizing the frontal area of the vehicle to 0.247 m2. The frontal area itself has a significant affect to fuel consumption.
The positive mold of the bodywork is going to be milled in Art Plast next weekend. Also planned of laminating some rigid parts of the chassis.
14.2.2008
Happy valentine's day! A bodywork for Remmi 7 is realizing. SPU Systems provides PUR plates for the positive mold of the bodywork. A glass-fibre negative mold for the bodywork is made on the positive mold.
We tested different sandwich structures of chassis in the heavy lab of Tampere University of Technology Institute of Applied Mechanics and Optimization. One sandwich structure was made of carbon-fibre and nomex honey-comp and one made of carbon-fibre and foam. Honey-comp structure performed well being 5mm thinner and lighter structure. Unfortunately we were not able to get sufficient amount of nomex honey-comp for our chassis so we ended up using foam instead.
4.2.2008
FY-Composites provides us all the carbon fibres and resin. A bodywork is meant to be made of lightweight glass fibre and carbon fibre. Both have their benefits.
We encountered small issues relating to the laminating process. We ended up having small fractures in our chassis needed to be fixed. Nonentheless the chassis will be ready as scheduled. Also many features in Remmi 7 have their plans ready.
Endless project - JANUARY
31.1.2008
The chassis laminating process has started well. All the foams have been cut and plans for finishing made. In two days the chassis is laminated.
Added pics of the laminating process.
17.1.2008
Remmi 7 has been announced to be the next new vehicle of Remmi-Team.
Remmi 7 is designed to be smaller than previous vehicle Remmi 6c. This is achieved by optimizing vehicle's frontal area, setting camber angle of front wheels around -8 degrees and minimizing wheelbase. Remmi 7 is going to be lighter than Remmi 6c due to smaller and high end optimized structure. Vehicle's overall volume is 427 litres which is 30% less compared to Remmi 6c.
The chassis is plate spaceframe planed to be made of carbonfibre and foam. We also considered using Nomex-honeycomp. The mold for the chassis is almost done. The chassis is going to be laminated in few weeks.
